As predicted in this Weblog, Microsoft invests $51 m in Groove. A buy-out is next.
An ustated item likely to be tied to the investment: full support for Microsoft's Instant Messaging client. Also, no support for AIM or ICQ.

WSJ (Subscription required), EU to go after Microsoft's money by imposing fine.
""As a result, any fine would be higher than it would have been if Microsoft cooperated, the document states. The commission, the European Union's executive body, has authority to impose a fine of as much as 10% of Microsoft's annual revenue, or $2.5 billion.
In its charge that Microsoft obstructed its investigation, the commission alleged that the company falsely presented 34 letters from companies purporting to support its case. In many instances, the letters had been written by Microsoft, or the companies weren't aware they were to be used as evidence, the commission said.
Microsoft also told the commission that the customer letters supporting Microsoft's case were to be kept confidential at the request of the companies, according to the statement of objections. "This was found untrue since the customers mostly did not know about the real purpose of the statements," European officials alleged. "Some of these companies even told the commission that Microsoft gave completely different reasons" for requesting the statements, the commission statement added.""
This is a pure and simple money grab by the EU made possible by Microsoft's conduct. Microsoft's unwillingness to work with the US authorities on curbing its practices makes it a target for EU pressure. In other circumstances the US gov't would have helped Microsoft. It is also too bad that the EU and not the US will get this money.

NYT. Pakistan gets sucked into conflict, and not on their own terms. It also looks like the Taliban is falling apart. Most of their best soldiers are volunteers from Pakistan, and they want to come home.

Scripting. I agree with Dave. Put OBL on TV a lot. He will do more harm to his cause everytime he opens his mouth than anything we could say.
BTW. If you want to read Arabic sites in English, here is a translation site.
Translation goes both ways, so if you want to view this site in Arabic, click on the link to the right.

I have categories now. Very nice. Click on a couple of the links to see my category specific Weblogs. You can get to a category specific RSS feed by clicking on the orange XML button in the margin on the right. Nice.
I am going to rework how I use categories as per my post to the KLogs mail group yesterday (It's 42 members and climbing by the way). Each category will be aimed at a specific group of readers. This works a lot better than topic based categorization. This way, I can build tailored Weblogs for each reader. One for friends and family, another for UserLand internal, and one for K-loggers.
Here is where this is headed. My main Weblog is for me. No one else sees it. I organize my life there. I tag certain items with categories so that I can share them with specific readers via category specific Weblogs. I then create four categories. One for the public (friends and family), one for my company (access controlled), one for my workgroup (access controlled), and one for K-Loggers (public). Very simple. Very easy and much more powerful than a single public Weblog.
