Dave got it right. The US used nuclear terror over the last fifty years, but it was used to create a nearly absolute peace. Pax Americana. The only wars we fought were self-inflicted. In fact, it has been so peaceful over the past fifty years that people actually started to believe that war is something they don't have to deal with, participate in, or support if it happens.
Well, that time is over folks. We all have been drafted. While nuclear terror works well with nations, it doesn't deter Asymmetric warriors one iota. In fact, they would welcome it.
