Web Services Journal.  The hype bandwagon begins.  Full of companies (carpetbaggers) and products that are attempting to jump onto the next big thing.  The cycle continues.

Dane is thinking about what I am thinking.  What if my kids had a complete Weblog of their lives?  A complete public  (or perhaps semi-private) repository of everything they were thinking, doing, and experiencing.   Pictures, vids, and pure writing about life.

BTW:  Dane, you should #1 get on Daypop, #2 get listed on Weblogs.com, and #3 get listed on Syndic8 (if he doesn't have a RSS feed, he should wait for Radio).

Doc puts some more meat on the Boingo wireless effort.   I personally don't have a problem with Boingo's proprietary client.  In fact, I prefer it.  It takes the hassle out of the connectivity and makes it easy enough for everyone to use.

How the Browser and IM will evolve

There is a growing perception that the browser and Instant Messaging provide a net negative productivity effect when used in companies. The reasons are complex, but they boil down to one thing:  people view the browser and IM as distractions from real work.  The question for most companies then becomes:  how do they turn the browser and IM into useful business tools that pick up where e-mail left off?

The answer is something I have been exploring on this Weblog.  In my view, the killer productivity app for the browser is K-Logging.  A K-Log combines personal publishing, browser-based ease of use, and standards-based integration into a package that transforms the browser into a killer tool for corporate productivity and knowledge management.  The next generation of IM, is something we are using internally at UserLand:  structured instant messaging.

Both of these next generation tools take the stress off of e-mail and provide new ways of communicating, collaborating, and sharing that can't be done any other way.  Further, these are natural evolutions of products people are familiar with, so the training cost will be minimal.  This is going to be an exciting couple of years as these new products roll-out.

NYT.  Deal to end gridlock on the allocation of wireless bandwidth falls apart amid charges of back-room deals and greased palms.  They should forget the money and open this bandwidth up to the public domain for spread spectrum devices.
