O'Reilly. Next generation P2P software should be more efficient at forming groups. I think this doesn't just apply to P2P it applies to the next generation of IM and browser KM products that are being built. The ability to form groups quickly that share information efficiently will take the pressure off of e-mail and make time spent computing much more productive.
Probably the best way to do this is through a world outline of users that can be searched and sorted by affiliation. That way, I can search for specific individuals with public profiles, view the resources they have available -- Weblog, RSS feeds, files, contact info, etc. Permissions could be set by company or other affiliation. These profiles could also be grouped according to organizational hierarchy of group membership, perhaps via a Web interface.
Further, if I had that, I could then drag and drop (or click in a Web interface) specific individuals into workgroups that share a specific Web application or other tools. Invitations would be sent automatically. Once accepted, their status as a group member would become part of their profile.
