OK. I got to CA intact. The airline system works. Barely. The funiest thing I saw was a line of 500 stressed and confused people at Boston's Logan airport waiting to get through security. A single 5' tall, 60 year old woman, with a bad wig, was working the flow. Everyone had to go through her. As a result, only 100 people an hour made it through the checkpoint. So, as you can guess, nobody except the people that had a flight in less than 45 minutes were let through. Obviously there needs to be a major rethink in how we run airports. To keep 500 standing in line for security in the narrow sliver of the airport for baggage check-in, while the hundreds of seats in the gate area are empty, isn't the way to do it - or - better yet, they need to broaden the flow at security.
