Glenn, Jabber is great middleware for real desktop apps.  Most likely these are desktop Web applications (Radio).

Just a simple insight.  It's pretty clear to me that the thinking about Web Services to date is just plain wrong. The best data doesn't exist on corporate systems.  The bulk of interesting new data is on the desktop, and it will grow.   P2P Web Services are the future.  How's this for workflow:  A personal calling card in the form of a Weblog.  It explains who you are, what you have available, and how to connect to the services you publish.  Click on the Web Service, fill out some information, and away you go.  No UDDI and WSDL.  The Weblog helps the document the Service.   Find it on Google (perhaps it is a tab on the the interface).   Simplistic.  Yes.  Doable.  Yes.

Wow.  Dan's new Weblog looks like a newsfeed (as seen in Radio) of his stories.

Powell, in a Possible Shift, Calls U.S. Willing to Sign Nuclear Pact. The secretary of state said today that the U.S. was willing to sign a treaty with Russia on limiting strategic weapons. [The New York Times: International News]   This is all part of Powell's three superpower strategy (US, China, and Russia).  Also, luckily for China, it saves them the huge expense needed to build up their nuclear arsenals to our levels.

$1 Streams: Get It While It's Hot. A Taiwan firm is offering streams of popular movies for just $1, in apparent direct defiance of all kinds of rules and regulations. By Noah Shachtman. [Wired News]   The problem with putting pressure on Taiwan is that we don't have an embassy there.  Nobody except one small island does.   At this point, it's clear that Taiwan doesn't have anything to gain from enforcing US copyright protection.  So, if we want to bring Taiwan into the fold, let's recognize them as a nation.

Wow.  The new categories feature upgrade for Radio is great.  Now I can select a theme and a language for each specific category I create.  Coool.

Adam's newest Web Service:  open CalServices.  Why wait for .Net where you will be controlled by Passport?  He is already building a peer based calendar system in Radio where people can link their calendars, integrate it with their Weblog and send notification to others via RSS.  Nice!

Wooo hooo.  Netflix now has an east coast distribution facility in MA (Worcester).  That shaves 4 days off of the turn around on my movies!  Funny, that they didn't announce it to members.

Phil Ackley:  all I want to do is be on the top 100 hotlist for subscriptions.  A good way to get on the top 100 subscriptions is to put the one-click subscriptions "xml mug" link above the fold on your site (this is a newspaper term for the topmost section of the front page).
