Esther Dyson on weblogs at the PC Forum.  Some of this has been covered in the Newsweek article.

>>>Instead of chatting aloud in a living room, the chatters are in the conference hall and online -- silent but active, so they don't disturb anyone.

Moreover, they have full access to the Internet. They can find the data to correct speakers as they "blog" (short for "Weblog"), posting real-time commentary about what's happening onstage. <<<

MyFreePress.com  has a great tag line.  "Freedom of the press is only guaranteed to those who own one"

Intelliware.ca is a custom business software company that uses a Radio weblog to communicate with customers.  Nice.

Ursula Lotze's vaction homes for rent in France.  This is a very nice Radio weblog, in german, that markets (showcases) vacation homes in France.  Click on the pictures for more detail.  This is an excellent way to promote a business.  Cost to build = $39.95

Technology Review.  Haptic gloves for feeling objects in cyberspace.  I did some market analysis work for SensAble technologies back in 1996.  The glove was a beta system then, but it worked nicely.  You can actually pick up objects inside a 3-D environment.  Unfortunately, these systems are too bulky and too expensive for personal use.

BBC.  The genetic sequence of Rice decoded.  >>>Researchers wanting to work on the sequence will have to sign usage agreements with the Swiss company. Critics claim the access restrictions go against the spirit of open research and will slow the advance of new knowledge.<<<  Patents on genetic codes "found in the wild" are really disturbing.

NYT>>> An executive of America Online (John Borthwick, the vice president for advanced services) told a federal judge today that Microsoft was using its Windows operating system to "tilt" users toward its own versions of technology that both companies see as the gateway to a lucrative new business called Web services.

Unless Microsoft is required to continue to disclose information about .Net and allow competing providers of Web services to promote themselves on the Windows desktop screen, Mr. Borthwick contended, the company would provide Windows users an advantage over users of other operating systems.<<<   Hey the way to promote competition with .Net isn't just about Passport vs. Magic Carpet.  It's about getting competitive Web services development platforms onto the initial install of Windows desktops.
