Here is some personal experience that may help others out there.  Recently, I found out that my Thyroid was inoperative (the Thyroid controls the body's metabolism).  My body was attacking it via an autoimmune problem called Hashimoto's syndrome.  It took me three years to realize this.  Looking back, I should have realized this sooner.  Up till my 38 birthday, I had been gaining weight at a rate of 1 pound a year.  I was trim and full of energy.  Since then, I have gained weight at the rate of over 1 pound a month for three years!  I also became much more lethargic than I had been in the past and my skin became dry and leathery in places.  Four months ago, I went to my GP to get some help.  She immediately noticed problems with my Thyroid.  This resulted in tests that showed that it wasn't functioning correctly (no cancer or other problems were noted, whew!).  I was immediately put on 1/2 dose replacement hormone.  That helped somewhat, but I still felt slower than I would have liked.  Last week, the doctors found that my Thyroid was totally inoperative and had likely been for a while.  The dose was increased to full replacement.  Since then, my energy levels are back up, my skin is recovering its former youthfulness, my weight is dropping, and more.  It's amazing that I let this creep up on me without noticing.  Anyway, this may serve as a good reminder that any departure from the norm with your body isn't necessarily the aging process.  It may be something that can be corrected.  Onward!

Wired.  The business of weblogging for bucks.  More on the way for the Weblog Network now that I have my weblog back up.

"Niche, niche and niche, that's the name of the game. You can't just start a site/blog just because you love it, and there are 1,000 other sites like that out there. Unless you know that you will be breaking stories that no one else will. "
