Dean sounded so much like Ballmer the other night, I think he might have a career at Microsoft as a stand in for the CEO.

BBC.  Saddam fighters "on its knees" from a departing commander.  The other thing he said is that "nationalist" attacks aimed at driving the US out of Iraq are the new threat.

Cartoons from Middle East media.  Pretty awful.

PBS.  A futures exchange that lets you make bets on the candidates for President.  Trade often, trade early.  The two top traders win a trip to the inauguration.  BTW, Dean's stock is in the tank.

What is overlooked is that Weblogs and other forms of social technology may have worked too well for Dean in Iowa.  He raised too much money.  He had too many out of state supporters that made the trek to Iowa.  He was too far ahead in the polls early on.  His campaign's leadership was too confident.

Josh Marshall A few days ago I saw James Carville say that Edwards was the best stump speaker he’d ever seen, even better than Clinton...   When I watch these guys one of the things I also watch for, either semi-consciously or quite deliberately, is, how will the Republicans go after this guy --- either on substance or on tone and demeanor and life story? With some of the contenders it is painfully obvious. But watching Edwards I had a pretty clear sense that he’d scare the president’s political advisors --- a lot. They talk up the trial thing. They make that clear. But I’ve never thought that would get them much traction.

CBN (video).  Al Qaeda operating out of Venezuela?  This is another example of Al Qaeda's need for failed states as staging grounds.  More from US News.  This is slightly dated but I missed it on the first pass.

Rational-Extremism (PDF).  The rationalist approach to war can help us understand terrorism. It shows that the purpose of extremist violence is to provoke the target into a disproportionate response, radicalize moderates, and build support for its ambitious goals over the long term. It reveals a dynamic process that still, at its core, is about bargaining over ends. It also suggests that moderation by the target can be not only virtuous but also good policy.

NOTE:  This is a great bit of analysis.  Think about this in regards to our guerrilla war in Iraq.
