What everyone is missing about massage therapy as the job of the future is:  you can't export the output of the work done.   When you are not globally competitive, inward (some would say navel gazing) dynamism won't correct the situation.  We need an outward focus.

This reporter doesn't think Presidents matter when it comes to the economy.  He looks at the economy as a mechanistic thing that operates outside of politics.  How wrong that is.  The economy is driven by psychology.  Optimism and confidence breeds investment in the future.  This in turn creates growth, jobs, and wealth.  Bush clearly hasn't inspired that confidence in the future (and the economy reflects this).  Reagan and Clinton did inspire confidence despite all of their faults.  Presidents matter.

Greenspan tells the truth about social security:  benefits need to be cut given the deficits we are running.   Given that 40% of Americans have nil in retirement savings (they are probably working at those great new jobs everyone is talking about), this is going to be a harsh blow.  Deficits do matter and it is responsible to point out that cuts need to follow if our taxes remain at a post WW2 low.  My solution:  take the cap off of social security earnings.

This is a classic but bizarre example of human behavior.  Managers at 4 different Wendy's restaurants in the Boston area strip searched an employee in response to a prank phone call.  The caller posed as a policeman and told the manager to stand a specific employee naked on a chair and search him for items stolen from a customer.  All four managers did as told.  Are people so accepting of "authority" now that a prank phone call can cause them to wildly overstep the bounds of decency and common sense?

Clear Channel pulled Howard Stern in 6 markets.  Neo-Victorianism is on a roll.   This is entirely driven by Congress and the FCC and not as some Republican apologists claim a purely corporate free speech issue.  All the big media companies are scared to death that the government will shut them down (mergers/growth and current business).

"Clear Channel drew a line in the sand today with regard to protecting our listeners from indecent content and Howard Stern's show blew right through it," said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio in the press release issued Wednesday.

"It was vulgar, offensive, and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency. We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting," Hogan said.
