Wow. I have lost over 30 pounds! Another 20 to go. So glad that my doc figured out that my thyroid was malfunctioning. My metabolism seems to back to my earlier level (which is probably in excess of 2,500 calories a day given the rate of my weight loss). Important safety tip when losing lots of weight: take vitamins and drink lots of water.

NYTimes on Saudi popular support for Saudi guerrillas in Iraq.
"It was very normal, just like any other tourist crossing to Iraq," said Mr. Enezi. He called periodically to check in, and then his friends called to say he had died in a firefight with American marines near Qaim on the Syrian border. He was buried there. "People are calling all the time to congratulate us — crying from happiness and envy," Mr. Enezi said.
General question: Are we getting good reporting on the mood of the Wahhabi core in Saudi Arabia re: the recent bombings in Riyad? There seems to be a upper middle class/urban bias in the reporting that is reminiscent of so many historical examples that caught us flatfooted.
