Here is Maj Gen Taguba's report on Abu Ghraib (PDF).  It's the report Seymour Hersh used for his New Yorker article.  Here is an NPR profile on Taguba.

I concur with Dave's and Marc's views on conferences.  I would love to get a real discussion going on the complex and under-examined issues surrounding terrorism (decentralization strategies, 4GW, media manipulation, moral war/victory, mercenaries, social technology, networked organizations, Islam, urban take-downs, etc.).   I think that a day long discussion that includes interesting and smart people from technology, politics, journalism, and the military to address each major topic area, would generate real solutions that can make a difference.  We are going to spend the next 20 years fighting this war (our victory is not nearly as certain as most people think, and the war won't end even if we withdraw from Iraq), so the earlier we start on this the better.

4GW -- Fourth Generation Warfare.  The type of warfare we are facing today is called 4GW by most military thinkers (who are, by and large, outside the military).  I have outlined 4GW for anyone who is interested in a quick primer on the topic.  If you want to understand why Abu Ghraib is important, read this.

WSJ.  288,000 jobs created in April.   Nice.  We are finally making progress (we need ~150,000 jobs a month to cover population growth in the labor market).  Of course, this growth in combination with high oil prices may force an early move by the Fed to raise rates.
