Reuters. The departures continue... The Defense Department issued a mandatory evacuation order on Friday for nonemergency employees and family members of American military personnel in Bahrain, because of concern about planned attacks by extremists on U.S. and Western targets in the Gulf state.

William Lind. Another excellent post. ...What Washington cannot understand is that the crumbling of Saudi Arabia is part of the war in Iraq, and that in Afghanistan as well. We still think of wars as delineated by state boundaries, because we still envision a world made up of states. Non-state forces (a better term is global guerrillas) such as al Qaeda use a very different map....

Reuters. More attacks on westerners (and by extension investment) in Iraq. Target: hotels. Rockets hit two central Baghdad hotels used by foreigners and Iraqi officials on Friday morning and guards outside one of them said at least three people were wounded or killed.
