The Bazaar of Violence. An emergent property of global guerrilla operations is a bazaar of violence. This bazaar creates a dynamic that keeps states in a position of failure/collapse. (Ooops. Wrong link. Fixed now).

WSJ. This is interesting. High US productivity hasn't been translated into higher incomes as efficiently as other OECD countries. Hopefully, it is reflected in lower prices for consumer goods. Americans have grown richer than citizens in other industrialized nations because they are working more, according to a new report that plays down the significance of higher U.S. productivity. Between 1970 and 2002, annual hours worked per capita rose 20% in the U.S., the most among 19 countries surveyed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a Paris-based economic-policy group. By comparison, annual work hours declined 17% in Japan and 24% in France.

WSJ on RSS newsreaders. Overall, I had the best experience with a service called Bloglines, and I recommend it, especially for beginners. The service is also free. Mark Fletcher, CEO of Trustic Inc., which operates Bloglines, tells me the site will use unobtrusive Google-style ads to bring in revenue.
