Improvements made after the NE blackout don't address a key vulnerability: a lack of redundancy in long-haul power lines critical to deregulated electricity distribution. The key to nation-wide electrical disruption is to attack these lines at peak usage periods.

Erinys, whose $39.5 m contract to guard Iraqi pipelines has been enriched to $100 m, is totally unable to prevent pipeline attacks. For example: Attacks against northern pipelines are up from 2 attacks a month in April to 8 a month now -- despite 6,400, out of 14,000 total in the country, Erinys guards (mostly former Kurdish Peshmerga) dedicated to their protection. Money is being thrown into a "security" black hole. This pattern is being repeated throughout Iraq and the US.

Guardian. The offending organisation, Studio 321, closed down last week rather than continue its legal battle with the MPAA, which was being pursued in New York, Los Angeles and London. The out of court settlement included an undertaking by the company's founders to pay undisclosed damages to the film studios. Ouch!

WT. The number of potential threats "leaked" by the government is reaching a level of random hysteria. The problem is that we have legions of officials, analysts, etc that don't have any clue as to what they are doing. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
