Reuters TV.  This has to be the coolest thing I have seen in a long while.  Jet powered personal flight.

The IAGS is going to have a conference in DC on global energy security.  I might go.

NYTFrom 2000 through 2003 the median household income fell by $1,500 (in 2003 dollars) - a significant 3.4 percent decrease. That information becomes startling when you consider that during the same period there was a strong 12 percent increase in productivity among U.S. workers. Economists will tell you that productivity increases go hand-in-hand with increases in the standard of living. But not this time. Here we have a 3.4 percent loss in real income juxtaposed with a big jump in productivity.

CSMPolls show the war on terror remains his (Bush's) strongest asset, with the president beating Kerry by as much as 20 points on that count. But by offering such a single-minded focus, the Bush campaign is also effectively counting on the fact that terrorism will trump all other issues - such as the economy - for voters.

A gas pipeline to a major power plant in Iraq was blown up (Taji?).  Without more power than a 8 random hours a day, the Iraqi economy will not recover.  Unemployment is currently running at 50% (with much higher concentrations in urban areas).

WP.  Putin, faced with Russia's own 9/11, is a quandry.  Sergei Markov, a political analyst with close ties to the Kremlin, said the deadly outcome of the school standoff had left Putin at a loss as to how to respond beyond the former KGB colonel's instinct to strengthen police powers and centralize control over government institutions. "They don't know what to do," he said. "Vladimir Putin didn't explain in detail what will be happening."  Is this incident needed to entice Russia into Iraq and Afghanistan?  Thomas Barnett thinks it is.  However, given the incompetence demonstrated by Russia in the crisis, do we really need them there?  Further, given Russia's bloodsoaked record in Afghanistan and Chechnya, very little would inflame the passions of our opposition more.
