Sounds like there is a need for a Cayman Islands version of Paypal.

You know what would be very cool to build:  a Pointcast for terrorism.  It would include high resolution maps of the most recent fighting.  Most recent stats on the fighting in Iraq. Satellite photos of critical areas.  The price of oil with the news of exactly when pipeline disruptions were made included in the graphics.  Filtered news on a variety of topics (RSS channels).  Casualty figures on a daily basis.  Etc.  Frankly, something like this would be on every national security desktop in the DoD within months (let alone the millions of people that want this in depth tool).  Perhaps a conversion of an RSS aggregator to include maps/multimedia would do.

An interesting aspect of Cantor Fitzgerald's analysis (the analysis Thomas Burnett used in his book "The Pentagon's New Map") is the idea of economic determinalism.  Countries with a per capita income of over $3,000 a year don't usually devolve into violence.  Saudi Arabia, which was at $26,000 per capita is now nearly $6,000 and falling.  The cost of providing every head of household in Iraq $3,000 a year:  $18 billion a year ($3,000 times 6,000,000).  The same is likely true for Afghanistan.  Why not an out of the box solution?  Why not prime the economic pump for a couple of years in order to get an accurate biometric census, generate economic activity, and gain legitimacy?  The answer, Republicans don't believe in government give aways.

More global guerrilla entrepreneurs jump into oil system disruption.  Oil bunkering, ala Nigeria, is on the rise.  Some interesting details from Islam-Online:
  • The price they get for bunkered oil:  “They sell a cargo at between $750-1000, half of its market price.”
  • Number of smuggling havens on coast:  He put at 100 the number of underground harbors in Shaat Al-Arab region, forming the main gateways for smugglers.
  • The importance of good network data (this is a hallmark of global guerrilla tactics).  The sources further said that top-secret CDs were stolen from the ministry last week in a highly professional and quick operation. They contain vital information about the country’s oil installations and locations of pipelines.

WPAn examination of state polls and interviews with strategists in the two campaigns and the parties suggests that, with less than two months before the election, the 10 most competitive states are, in order of electoral vote strength, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, West Virginia and New Hampshire.

Frankly, if you want to get your head around how weblogs and RSS can be used within professional environments you should read all of my K-logs posts.  Most are as valid today as then.  Perhaps I should package them up as a PDF book listed on Amazon...

Dave's entirely right about how RSS should be utilized at MSDN.  When you aggregate feeds from hundreds of weblogs into a single monster feed, the chance that your subscribers are downloading something they don't care about is nearly 100%.  RSS is all about decentralization.  It's about individual choice at a granular level.  Anything else and you've created spam.  Gates understands this, so why doesn't the rank and file?
