The bond market fell out of bed this morning and Bill Gross summed it up: ``We're looking at $400 billion plus (deficits) as far as the eye can see; that's a negative for the bond market,'' said Bill Gross, who manages the world's biggest bond fund at Pacific Investment Management Co.
My note: this deficit is essentially our excess defense spending, over what it would take to defend the US "homeland." It's the superpower tax.

Bruce Sterling (one of my favorite authors) revised his earlier caveats on his endorsement of Global Guerrillas upon reading bin Laden's statement.
"Do you remember that GLOBAL GUERRILLAS thing I was talking about earlier, when I said that Al Qaeda doesn't think much about leveraged returns on investment? Well, I was wrong. Al Qaeda DOES think about leveraged returns on investment. They think about it a LOT. He's speaking fluent American pocketbookese here." Thanks Bruce!!

It is interesting that the "corrupt" and "liberal" Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country. In contrast, the so-called "Bible Belt" runs 50% higher than the national average.

More Halliburton targeting. Another senior Iraqi oil official was killed in his home. Going after senior management is in line with the theory. A quote from the brief:
Global guerrillas will increasingly target senior management in participating companies (wherever they are located). This will be used as a means of amplifying any specific corporate targeting. The identification of senior executives by name for assassination, even if it is only a bluff, is more than enough to accomplish much of this effect. A single assassination of a corporate executive would be sufficient to make these threats real. By piercing the corporate veil of executive anonymity and immunity, decision making within participating companies will be radically altered.

Nation-state = 1 Market-state = 0. Indication: Moral issues were the #1 exit poll concern.
